Not only are goose and duck used because of the comfort, but for its light weight and thermal properties as well. As the temperature drops, it contracts to retain warmth. It’s nice to be able to use it year round as it’ll keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Another benefit of a high end comforter is that it will wick away moisture. Synthetic filled comforters will trap body heat and moisture, so you can wake up feeling wet.
To ensure you aren’t going to run into this problem, be sure to check on the fill power of your comforter. You are looking for a higher number. The higher the number, the higher the more fill, which is what you want. (The fill number is the measure of density of filling in the comforter in ounces per square inch.)
Another consideration is the thread count. The higher the thread count, the better. Not only will the higher thread count mean a softer feel, it’ll be more durable and it’ll be easier to keep clean.
Lastly, ensure that baffling is used in your comforter. This will keep the down from shifting and clumping. Keep all of these things in mind when looking at luxury comforter sets.
You will likely run into some sticker shock when researching luxury comforter sets. The best thing to do is to look at this exercise as an investment. After going all Dux when it came to our bed and bedding accessories, it’s the only way we could look at it! But in all seriousness, our Dux purchases have been the best investments of our life.
